Going to the gym is a great way to strengthen all muscles of the body. The gym has machines to work both the heart (known as “cardio” equipment) and machines to work specific muscle groups (known as “weights”). Most gyms have an assortment of equipment to choose from. Whatever you have going on in your life, going to the gym is not only fun, but it is also an ideal way to keep healthy and in shape. It is a good habit to get into and if you don’t play any sport or do much physical activity from day to day, get yourself to the gym three times a week! Even if you get physical activity in a different area of your life, the gym is where you should be when it’s bad weather and when you are off season! Going to the gym will change your life!
Why is it fun?
Reason #1
Going to the gym is fun because you feel great after a hard workout! Endorphins are released within your body when you exercise, creating a full body high! Also, when you have a regular workout, you feel more energetic and efficient throughout the day. Moreover, physical activity is a great way to relieve stress and avoid depression.
Reason #2
You can go with your friends or meet other people who go to the same gym. You can watch TV or read a magazine or book while on many of the machines, such as the Stairmaster.
Reason #3
You feel really cool going to the gym, especially if you are a member and get to sign in with your member pass.
Reason #4
You won’t feel guilty about eating the food you want when you have exercised at the gym that day!
Reason #5
The gym can be self-paced. You can work yourself however hard you want to at the gym – no coach will yelling at you or peers to keep up with. You can challenge yourself or take it easy on a day you are not feeling so great.

It’s healthy! If you eat fruits and vegetables and don’t pig out on junk food, that’s wonderful, but exercising is key to a healthy and fit lifestyle.
