Without question, the single most important piece of safety equipment for cycling is a helmet. A bicycle helmet is affordable, relatively easy to use, and highly effective in preventing injuries. And if you are under the age of 18 in California, you are required by law to wear a helmet when riding your bike.

According to Loyola University, head injuries occur in 31-65% of bicycle accidents. Predictably, only 1-4% of people wearing helmets sustain head injuries, compared to 11-22% of people who don't. In fact, the Bicycle Helmet Safety Institute estimates that 45-85% of cyclists’ brain injuries can be prevented by the use of a helmet.

So with all this information in support of bicycle helmet use, it is interesting that (according to Loyola University) only 18% of all cyclists wear helmets. We hope you will be one who chooses to wear a helmet!
